Environmental sciences & Networking
International cooperation and exchange of knowledge are an important part of our day-to-day business. Our aquaculture networks are ensuring that the knowledge generated by us and our partners finds its way out into the world andcreate added value there. Forums for the exchange of knowledge between scientists and experts are a part of our work as teaching units at schools or activities in public for a wide audience. The aim is always to convey our knowledge and experience in a way that is appropriate for the target group and to show that good research is worthwhile for everyone.
The environmental research area deals with the interface between aquaculture and nature conservation. Modern aquaculture technology can contribute to the conservation of endangered species. Examples are the keeping and breeding of endangered species under controlled conditions for stocking. Aquaculture techniques can also be used to contain the spread of diseases in natural waters. In addition, the control of invasive species and the utilisation of the resulting biomass for aquaculture are increasingly becoming the focus of our work.
