Using various radiometric methods (e.g., ¹⁴C, ²¹⁰Pb, U/Th), we determine the age of sediments and their components. Particularly, we use compound-specific ¹⁴C dating of organic biomarkers to study sedimentation processes like redistribution and transport from land to ocean. Combined with organic biomarker analyses, these data are used to determine the origin and provenance of sediments.
