INternational Science Program for Integrative Research in Earth Systems

AWI is recruiting 17 PhD candidates and 12 Postdocs to strengthen its new research program "Changing Earth – Sustaining our Future".

Application is now open in the following research areas:

  • Climate and Geoscience (atmosphere, ocean, ice and land)
  • Coastal systems
  • Terrestrial Arctic ecosystems and permafrost
  • Marine and polar life
  • Marine bioeconomy (bionics)

Applications must be written in English language, submitted online and received by 16 February 2020 (23:59 CET).

You can apply for max three projects (if you apply for more than three projects your application will be disregarded). The positions are limited to 2 or 3 years.

Place of employment: The place of employment will be Bremerhaven, Potsdam, Sylt or Helgoland, depending on the respective research area and position.

Application procedure

Selected candidates are invited to present their research ideas and motivation during the “Annual recruitment days”, planned from 16 to 24 March 2020 in Bremerhaven, Germany. Arrangements for video or telephone interviews are an option.

Our doctoral training program

All doctoral candidates will become members of the Helmholtz Graduate School for Polar and Marine Research (POLMAR) and thus benefit from a comprehensive training program and extensive support measures. Our 3-year PhD training program covers a wide spectrum of research opportunities with access to state-of-the-art research facilities and advanced infrastructure.

Our Postdoc program

Postdocs can register with AWI’s postdoc office PROCEED, thereby gaining access to a set of tailored career development tools. We offer in-house training program, the opportunity to participate in external seminars, mentoring and career development support to successfully progress in your desired career. We provide research in an excellent research community and lively international atmosphere.
