AI –based  software tool based on a database of functional geometric traits of marine organisms

The structural designs of many organisms are highly efficient – that is, lightweight, resource-efficient, mechanically stable, sustainable and aesthetic. It therefore stands to reason that these should be applied in engineering across all sectors to produce products and structures that also meet these criteria. Due to the complex and lengthy development processes associated with implementing such approaches, only a few bio-based solutions have so far been implemented in engineering and everyday life.

The AIDA project aims to radically accelerate the use of bio-inspired design methods (by a factor of >100). To this end, a 3D database architecture based on the structures of – initially marine – organisms, including an assessment of mechanical performance profiles, is to be designed. This data is to be converted into an AI tool using deep learning software, which will be integrated into software platforms such as Synera for product development and used universally across all sectors.
