Discover Bionics – Shapes and Patterns in Nature
Experience the fascinating world of bionics! In our workshop, we’ll show you how nature and technology work in harmony. You’ll learn how diatoms – tiny siliceous algae – act as architectural masters, and how mathematics creates impressive patterns in nature. Their shapes demonstrate that aesthetics and function go hand in hand in nature. A workshop full of ‘aha’ moments for anyone who wants to see nature through different eyes.
Ceramics
Diatoms have shells of remarkable beauty and precision. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about the functional and aesthetic forms of these unusual organisms and apply this knowledge creatively. Drawing inspiration from these natural models, they will create their own ceramic pieces, interpreting nature’s design language in their own unique way. The workshop thus combines scientific learning with craftsmanship and artistic expression – for creative hands and curious minds.
The Ocean and its Inhabitants
The ocean is home to a unique diversity of living creatures. In this workshop, we will examine three selected organisms and their survival strategies – tiny environmental wonders with astonishing adaptations to their habitats. We will then turn our attention to diatoms and protists, tiny organisms with remarkable characteristics. Their shells combine great strength with delicate beauty. Finally, we will demonstrate how technology makes use of these structural principles found in diatoms.
