From 29 May to 7 June 2026, the environmental photography festival “horizonte zingst” will present a diverse programme for the 19th time, bringing together international photography with current societal issues. Under this year’s theme “Human”, the festival offers a range of exhibition tours, photography workshops, multi-vision shows, panel discussions and talks.
As part of the festival, the exhibition “Danger Islands” by AWI photographer Esther Horvath will open. Her work documents a scientific expedition to the Danger Islands in Antarctica. The region is considered one of the most ecologically significant seabird areas in Antarctica and is home to the world’s largest known colony of Adélie penguins. The exhibition will be on display at Schlösschen Sundische Wiese in Zingst from 29 May to 7 November 2026.

Accompanying the exhibition, a Horizonte Talk with Esther Horvath and members of the research team will take place on 31 May from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Multimediahalle Zingst. The participants will discuss the expedition aboard the research vessel Malizia Explorer, the scientific work carried out on site, as well as the impacts of climate change and human activity on the fragile Antarctic ecosystem.
