Vernissage “Interfacing the Ocean”
When: 23.04.2026, 7 pm
Where: Schlaues Haus Oldenburg
Who: HIFMB Oldenburg
Although our oceans remain largely unexplored, knowledge about marine ecosystems continues to grow steadily through modern technologies. At the same time, this knowledge is becoming increasingly complex and often remains confined to the scientific community.
This is precisely where designer and media artist Max Seeger, the current artist-in-residence at the Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB) in Oldenburg, comes in. In his multimedia installation, he translates scientific data into interactive and emotional experiences, opening up new ways of engaging with marine research. His work has been exhibited internationally and has received numerous awards.
The vernissage will take place on 23 April at 7 pm, accompanied by a discussion with Seeger and biodiversity expert Dr Dorothee Hodapp on the role and responsibility of art and science.
