Ocean Science Jam 2026

When: 09.12.2026, 7-9 pm
Where: Core, Markthalle Oldenburg
Who: Marine Biodiversity at the University of Oldenburg (HIFMB), Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg

The Ocean Science Jam brings together science, creativity and art. Marine scientists from the HIFMB provide an insight into their work on tipping points, and the audience – musicians, artists, dancers and performers – react in real time to visual and audio cues presented.

This year’s fourth Ocean Science Jam is themed “The World of Tipping Points”. The term “tipping point” is increasingly used to understand and describe abrupt changes. Once a tipping point has been reached, there is no turning back; the change is irreversible and fundamental – or so the widely held view goes. How do scientists from various disciplines view this concept, and what are “positive tipping points”? Those interested can find out this and more on 9 December at Core.

Admission is free.
