AWI permafrost researcher Moritz Langer received the climate award of the Reinhard Süring Foundation. The award is endowed with a prize money of 1500 euro and honours Langer outstanding study: Satellite-based modeling of permafrost temperatures in a tundra lowland landscape, published in the scientific journal Remote Sensing of Environment.

"This paper describes an innovative approach to investigate a complex research topic in an extreme environment and was concordantly selected as the best work in this competition", a speaker of the foundation said. In his study Moritz Langer had simulated the thermal state of permafrost temperatures and thaw deep by using satellite data. To read the scientific paper, click here.
