Premiere of the documentary film “ICE WOMEN”

The premiere of the documentary film “Ice Women” will take place on Saturday, 9 May 2026 at 8:30 pm at the Rio Filmpalast in Munich.

The film by Dorothea Braun and Jens Becker tells the almost forgotten stories of three pioneers of Arctic research who joined male-dominated expeditions: Josephine Peary, Louise Arner Boyd and Ada Blackjack. It presents a diverse view of the Arctic as a living environment and highlights the challenges faced by women researchers.
At the same time, “Ice Women” combines a historical perspective with insights into the work of contemporary female scientists who follow in the footsteps of these early pioneers, helping to bring greater visibility to their contributions.

Angelika Humbert from the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) was also involved in the making of the documentary film. A discussion will follow the premiere screening.
