European Premiere: “Salt and Water” at Filmfest Bremen
When: 16.04.2026, 7:30 pm
Where: Cinespace Bremen
Who: Filmfest Bremen, ThurnFilm
At Filmfest Bremen 2026, the documentary “Salt and Water” celebrates its European premiere. Produced by Valentin Thurn, the film takes the audience on board the research icebreaker “Polarstern” and follows an international expedition to Antarctica. At its core is the question of whether the East Antarctic Ice Sheet is at risk of melting and what impact this could have on global sea levels.
At the same time, Salt and Water offers personal insights into the daily lives of researchers working under extreme conditions and highlights the importance of their work. The footage was captured during a Polarstern expedition led by GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel in collaboration with the Alfred Wegener Institute and international partners.
Following the premiere, there will be discussions with the director Ines Reinisch, the Deputy Director of AWI, Maarten Boersma, and several expedition participants. The film will be shown in German with English subtitles.
A further screening will take place on Saturday, 18 April at 1:30 pm at the community cinema City 46.
