Marine Litter

Apart from climate change the marine environment is considerably modified by the world-wide input of plastic waste. The ingestion of plastic waste by marine organisms can induce massive damage. Additionally, floating marine litter may act as an efficient way of biogeographic distribution enabling the transport of organisms across wide distances and facilitating the introduction of foreign species. We investigate these aspects in the North Sea as well as in other marine regions.
