As an intern

A High School internship ('Praktikum') is an essential part of school life, aimed at gaining an insight into a possible future career choice.

For students interested in pursuing a career in scientific fields and who are no more than nine months from graduating High School, we offer internships in support of the schools' internship programmes.  (Note the exception in relation to Helgoland explained below.)

In addition, we offer a school internship for some of our apprenticeships. You can find an overview of the professions in the right column on this page, detailed information about our apprenticeships can be found  here.

We look forward to receiving your application!

Internship at Helgoland

The Biologische Anstalt Helgoland offers a limited number of High School internships in the scientific departments and in the scientific workshop. The minimum age is 16 years. The duration of these internships is two weeks.

For the block internship in our scientific departments there is the possibility for a maximum of 10 people to get to know the different working areas (biochemistry, fish ecology, microbiology, phytoplankton, zooplankton) for one week. In the second week we offer you the opportunity to do your own research in our guest laboratory.

The next timeframe for an internship will be the 12.- 23. February 2024 with an application deadline of November 1st.

Traineeships can be completed all year round in the technical and scientific workshops. Here you can get an insight into the work of technology, precision mechanics, carpentry and electrics. We provide a total of four internships per year in this area. Please send your application by e-mail to Heino Peters  (contact on the right).
