Antje Boetius receives the Leibniz Ring

Hannover Press Club commends the AWI Director’s contributions
[26. October 2019]

A great honour for Prof Antje Boetius: the deep-sea researcher and Director of the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research was selected for the “LeibnizRingHannover 2019”, a prize bestowed by the Hannover Press Club.

In the official award presentation speech, Antje Boetius was described not only as an outstanding scientist, researcher and pioneer, but also an outspoken advocate of climate protection. As a researcher focusing on the ocean and seafloor, she seeks and finds solutions for an environment worth living in. Moreover, the AWI Director was praised for her ability to communicate her scientific findings in a straightforward manner, which helps her to actively shape important debates.

By awarding the annual Leibniz Ring Hannover, the Hannover Press Club recognises an individual or institution that has gained prominence through outstanding performance, or has made a major contribution through his or her life’s work. Further, the award honours the memory of the polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716), who was an active mathematician, politician and diplomat in Hannover.
