PhD students pages
Welcome to the pages dedicated to PhD students at the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI).
Currently we have about 180 PhD students working at the different divisions at the AWI. In order not to loose sight of each other and that not everybody has to fight for himself, we select PhD representatives, the 'DokTeam'. This group of PhDs speaks up, fights for the rights of all PhDs and organises group activities. If you have questions/comments, feel free to contact us (see also contact information on the right).
As an example we organise PhD Days in one of the AWI outposts at Helgoland, Sylt or Potsdam every year. This small conference allows us to present our work during talks and poster sessions get in new scientific exchange and to discuss challenges of the daily PhD student life. In the last years the PhD days were organized in Potsdam (2013) and Helgoland (2014). Next year the PhD Days will be held on Sylt.
More information as a prospective PhD student can be found here.

Graduate schools at AWI
PhD students have the possibility to participate in a structured postgraduate education program. At the Awi there are two graduate schools present:
These graduate schools allows PhD students to broaden their knowledge during different courses and seminars; they can be used as exchange platforms, they help with various aspects during the PhD life, e.g. the organization for a sty abroad. Further information can be found here.
