Work-Life Balance at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine research

Balancing work and family time is an important value at the Alfred Wegener Institute. We are continually striving to improve the framework for this balance. For this reason, a creche (day care) for 0-3 year old children was installed in 2001. For school children, there are holiday camps with a variety of activities during spring, summer and autumn school holidays. Further, we provide support in finding housing, an appropriate Kindergarten (child care for 3-6 year old children) or the right school for you and we support you in all other questions related to problems that families in a new environment may have. Winfried Hebold-Heitz will happily answer all work and family related questions.

The Alfred Wegener Institute strives to be a family-friendly employer that is attractive for young researchers from all over the world.

We would like to help you concerning the following questions:

·      I am new in town, what does Bremerhaven have to offer for families?

·      School system in Bremerhaven

·      What can I do, when I have to go on an expedition?

·      What can you do in your spare time in the Bremerhaven area?

·      I need a nanny, whom do I ask?

·      I do have a nanny but she fell unexpectedly ill, what can I do?

·      Can I ask a question about ...?
