Project overview and contact information

INTERNAS facilitates a knowledge transfer from international environmental assessments to the German political context. It uses a participative and dialog-oriented consultation process to improve the awareness and adaptation of recommendations for policy makers formulated on an international level. Thereby, it strengthens the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) in Germany. In addition, INTERNAS develops a standardization for knowledge transfer and indicators for measuring the success of knowledge transfer, while integrating a range of different stakeholders.

The transfer process is analyzed by accompanying research, during which ontologies are being developed. Ontologies are machine-readable representations of human knowledge that are increasingly in use by the United Nations and other international organizations. The development of ontologies is a central contribution for the advancement of measurable and representable criteria and indicators for a good knowledge transfer process, which can then be applied to other areas and processes beyond the INTERNAS project.

INTERNAS is a project of the Initiative and Networking Fund by the Helmholtz Association, in which the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) and Alfred-Wegener Institute, Helmholtz-Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) pool and apply their expertise on terrestrial, marine, coastal and polar ecosystems.
