Multi Plankton Sampler

The Multi Plankton Sampler MPS 92B is used to collect siliceous and calcareous proto-zooplankton (radiolarians and foraminifera) from different water depth levels to get information about the ecology of specific species and species groups used for geochemical and paleobiological applications.

The MPS consists of a Deck Command Unit and a stainless steel frame with canvas part to which 5 net bags are attached by means of zip fasteners. Each net bag is equipped with a sample beaker at the end. The window of the beaker is protected with a net of 41µm mesh size. The net bags are opened and closed by means of an arrangement of levers, which are triggered by a Motor Unit. We are using nets with a mesh size of 51 µm. The nets are strengthened in the lower outside part with an additional net of 500 µm mesh size. Each net is equipped at the inside of the opening with a flowmeter for the determination of the water passing through the net. Another flowmeter is located outside the opening of the Underwater
Unit for the determination of clogging.
