Public Lecture

Marine protected areas in the North Sea

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Wadden Sea Station on Sylt, an interesting series of lectures has been organised to provide you with exciting information about the site and our work on the island.

The coastal waters of the North Sea are a highly productive habitat, but one that is facing growing challenges due to the ever-increasing influence of humans. Water pollution and regional and local human activities are putting increasing pressure on the marine ecosystem. We use marine resources as food, generate energy from offshore wind turbines, benefit from biochemical cycles in the sea and relax on its beaches. But how do we find a balance between the utilisation of the sea and the preservation of ecosystems?

You will learn this and much more in this lecture by Sabine Horn.
