Public Lecture

A century of hidden research: The fascinating history of underwater life

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Wadden Sea Station on Sylt, an interesting series of lectures has been organised to provide you with exciting information about the site and our work on the island.

In August, you will learn more about the biodiversity that our Wadden Sea harbours. Research into the underwater world of the North German Wadden Sea began in the late 19th century. Since the 1980s, the former oyster beds in the Lister Tief have been regularly investigated. Changing environmental conditions, in particular warmer water temperatures, favour the spread of various organisms, leading to an overall increase in biodiversity in the Wadden Sea. In this lecture you will experience a fascinating journey through 100 years of research.

The lecture will be given by Andreas Waser.
