Ontologies are representations of human knowledge, readable for humans and for machines. In INTERNAS, we use ontologies by taking up and digitalizing key terms and concepts during the knowledge transfer events such as workshops and focus groups. This knowledge is then transferred to key ontologies that are being used by a variety of stakeholders, and that help to spread the knowledge gathered by INTERNAS. In particular, our focus is on the Environment Ontology ENVO and the Sustainable Development Goals Interface Ontology SDGIO by the United Nations. We use the Open Biological and Biomedical Ontology Foundry and Library (http://obofoundry.org) in order to ensure the best possible process, and we abide by the guidelines of FAIRness. FAIR is a key principle with regards to data that stands for Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability of the data.
