The aim of PlanktoSERV is to provide a robust understanding of how ecosystem services provided by planktonic food webs may be altered by global change.
As a result of human activities, the North Sea is subjected to simultaneous changes in temperature, acidity, nutrients, salinity, and other factors. The impacts of these changes on ecosystem functioning remain however unknown since most studies thus far have focused on single stressor effects. PlanktoSERV goes beyond this, investigating the effects of combined stressors, using a unique suite of approaches which will yield the information needed to efficiently manage coastal systems.
