Art for the Protection of the Seas

Antje Boetius speaks as part of the art project WE ARE OCEAN
[09. October 2019]

AWI Director Antje Boetius participated in a panel discussion in the context of the art project WE ARE OCEAN in Berlin on 2 October. Together with Sebastian Unger (IASS Potsdam), she spoke about climate change and sea-level rise.

The interdisciplinary art project WE ARE OCEAN will take place from 30 September to 15 December this year at several locations in Berlin and Brandenburg. Through a close cooperation of artists, curators, as well as students, scientists and political decision-makers, especially schoolchildren should have the opportunity to creatively deal with topics related to climate change.

The aim of the project is to raise awareness of the dependence of all people on the oceans. The pupils' attention is also drawn to social overuse. The aim is not only to impart knowledge about the state of the oceans, but also to encourage environmentally friendly changes in behaviour.

The project is carried out mainly directly at schools in cooperation with the scientist Oscar Schmidt from IASS Potsdam.

Similar events are also taking place in France and Italy. More information about the program and the organizers ARTPORT_making waves can be found here.
