Potsdam has about 160,000 inhabitants, is situated on the Havel River close to Berlin and is surrounded by a number of lakes. As a former residential city of the Prussian kings, Potsdam is widely known for its famous palaces and gardens, the most famous among them certainly being Sanssouci. Last but not least, Potsdam is also a city of science. The Potsdam Research Unit of AWI is located on Telegrafenberg and shares the campus with many other high-profile research institutions, such as the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam - the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences or the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.

Due to the central location of AWI (just a few minutes’ walk from the Potsdam Central Station) and the convenient connections from Potsdam to Berlin via the Regional Express Line 1 of the Deutsche Bahn, it is quite possible to live in Berlin and work at AWI Potsdam.

On the homepage of the city of Potsdam, you will find a lot of important information for (potential) new residents.
