A view inside the Air Chemistry Observatory (Photo: Holger Tülp)

This photo shows the high volume (HV) and low volume (LV) aerosol sampling set-up. The HV-filter is situated inside the aluminium holders (on the right side, between the striking orange coloured solenoid valves). The pumps are mounted below the desk. Typically the air flow through the HV-filters is around 100 m3/h and 20000 m3 – 40000 m3 air is forced through the filters.

Also shown is the condensation nuclei (CN-) counter and the intergrating nephelometer. Analyses of the filters are performed at the AWI in Bremerhaven (ionic composition) and at the Institut für Umweltphysik in Heidelberg. Data are available at the World Data Centre for Aerosols (WDCA) and the World Data Centre for Greenhouse Gases (WDCGG)
