Travel Preparations

Is it allowed to arrive earlier than 10th of September or leave later than 24th of September?

We will only reimburse flight/train tickets that are dated (up to) 3 days before/after the Summer School

Please check if you can find a flight (to Bremen or Hamburg) that allows you to arrive at Westerland (by train) until 5PM (Monday 10th). If this is not possible you should check for connections on Sunday, 9th. Our guesthouse on Sylt is occupied and only booked from Monday 10th on. So, if you have to arrive one day early, you will have to book an hotel on your own.

When to book the railway ticket?

Railway tickets for Deutsche Bahn may only be booked 92 days in advance. Earliest booking therefore is possible on 11th of June. To make a rough estimate on the travel costs you may choose another date in the online portal of Deutsche Bahn.

However, exceptions may be made for non-European students with outstanding marks, providing high excellency and strong recommendations.

Is a more confidential submission of the reference letter(s) possible?

Yes, it is. If you (or your supervisor) prefer to confidentially submit your letter(s) of recommendation please ask your supervisor(s) to send his reference letter(s) as a pdf document to climateschool(at)awi.de (deadline is April 10th, 2012).

What costs do I have to expect?

The stipends for the selected participants will cover all arising expenses and costs regarding traveling, boarding, and lodging during the summer school. If you are one of the forty students, selected by our Steering Committee, the participation will be completely free of charge.
