Samoylov Climate Station

Reading out the data
Since 1998, we've operated a climate and soil station on Samoylov island. The power supply of these stand-alone systems consists of a combination of wind generator, solar panel and batteries. Data is stored on storage modules and collected during the yearly expeditions.
Components of the soil station are:
- Snow depth sensor
- 20 temperature and 32 soil moisture probes in three vertical profiles (polygon wall, polygon center and polygon rim)
The climate station consists of sensors for:
- Windspeed/-direction
- Air temperature/-humidity (0,5m/2m)
- Radiation (global, IR, net)
- Precipitation
Additionally, we installed an automatic camera Summer 2006 that takes one picture per day to observe the snow cover at our site. We'll provide you these exciting pictures in September 2007 following this year's summer expedition.
