Long-term Climate and Soil Stations

Climate Station, Svalbard

Climate Station, Svalbard

Continuous long-term data with high accuracy and high temporal resolution are of prime importance to observe changes in soil and climate. Monitored soil parameters include temperature, moisture and electrical conductivity. Monitored climate parameters include air temperature and humidity, windspeed and -direction, precipitation, radiation (shortwave, netto and longwave) and snow depth
The collected data are used to quantify energy balance components and deduce heat transfer processes such as conductive heat flux, generation of heat from phase transitions, and migration of water vapor.

Soil and climate Station, Samoylov Island

We operate two soil and climate stations at our sites close to Ny-Ålesund, Spitsbergen and one on Samoylov Island, Siberia.
