Research topics of the LIMPICS Group
The LIMPICS group uses radar and seimics to link micro-physical properties to macro features in ice sheets. Current research foci include
- radio-echo free zones in ice sheets
- vibroseismics
- explosive seismics
- paleoclimate interpretations of ice cores
- transient processes in snow
These methods are employed at different field sites in Antarctica, e.g. in places such as Halvfarryggen, and in the Alps, especially at our Colle Gnifetti testside, where we try to improve current geophysical methods and also aim at improving ice-core interpretation. Moreover, we employ different techniques of satellite remote sensing to aid our investigations, most importantly interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR).
