Within the scope of (DEKLIM) the German Climate Research Program, the Scientific Computing working group participates in the development of a finite element component model of the atmosphere together with scientists of the (“PLASMA – Parallel Large Scale Self-adaptive Model of the Atmosphere”) project.  In the project, activities of the computer centre group concentrate on efficient solution of the linear equations systems to be solved in the model. For this purpose, the solver interface package “Family of Simplified Solver Interfaces (FoSSI)” is mainly provided, maintained and constantly adapted to new developments. FoSSI gives easy access to the Petsc, Aztec, Hypre, Pilut and Mumps parallel solver libraries.
