Results of the Questionnaire on Isotope Geochemistry of Permafrost
A questionnaire on isotope geochemistry of permafrost was developed for scientists interested and active in Circum-Arctic and Circum-Antarctic isotope and geochemistry studies in permafrost. A summary is given here of the responses to this questionnaire of 17 people representing seven nations as of July, 2003. We encourage comments and new ideas that will help to shape the direction of the working group.
Main interests of research
- climate/environmental reconstruction (13)
- ground ice genesis/age (4)
- isotope hydrology/paleohydrology (3)
Recommendations for Working Group activities
- methodological exchange between labs
- coordination of collaboration
- organization of workshops and summer schools
- mapping of isotope signals in in precipitation
- mapping and classification of Antarctic permafrost and ground ice
Interests to participate in Working Group
- exchange of information
- comparison of data
- getting contact
- identification of main gaps in knowledge
- expand application of isotope gechemistry
Below is a summary of answers to questions related to:
(1) the nationality of the participants,
(2) the used isotope systems and
(3) the archives for which isotope/geochemistry studies are used.
