XRF Core Scanner - Geochemical element compositions and concentration
The AVAATECH XRF Core-Scanner is an energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence system. Compositions and changes of chemical elements concentrations with core depth could be measured on a smooth core surface. Counting pulses of elements from aluminium to uranium will be determined first. In a second step this counts could be calibrated with measurements on standards or single samples for getting percentages. The measuring spot size is variable from 1 to 10 millimetres with a fixed width of 12 mm. Herewith we are able to perform very high-resolution measurements down-core. A CCD line scan camera will provide an image of the sediment core and the RGB pixel values of this could be investigated further on.
