Example: How to find the deepest measurement in the North Sea

 

The MarGIS viewer


 

1.   On the left side of the viewer an overview of the available maps is given. The diffrent maps are prorated in groups. A click on the tabs will activate the group. There is a tooltip for every group, which informates about content of the group. To find the deepest point of the northsea we select the group Bathy., which contains the batyhymetrie data.

2.   The overview about all maps in the group show up. There are two buttons in front of the mapname. Use the quadratic one, to make the map visible. Clikcing the round button makes the layer visible and activ for queries. Only one layer can be activ at the same time. After clicking the round button the map will shown up in the right map window and the legend of the layer appears unter the layername.

3.   There are different ways to query a map. With the infobutton you can query a single objects. To query multiple objects, use the rectangle- or polygonselectiontool. As the result of the query you get a table with several measured values and datas for the respective object. To find objects by there datas use the querytool.

4.   If you activate the SQL query tool, a new window appears down to the map. Here you can create a new SQL query. Choose the value you want to query in the first selection box. In the case choose "Value". After this choose the operator "=" and the lowest value in the legend of the layer. which is -1140. Now the query will be created by clicking the "Add to Query String button". Click execute and the founded objects will be displayed yellow in the map. Also the data for every founded object will be shown in a table unter the map. Click on the number in the first column and the will be zoom these object.
