AWI Buoy Program
The Alfred Wegener Institute is an active partner of the International Arctic and Antarctic buoy programs (IABP / IPAB). The programs main goal is to maintain a network of drifting buoys in the Arctic and Southern Ocean to provide meteorological and oceanographic data for real-time operational requirements and research purposes including support to the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the World Weather Watch (WWW) Programme. Every year AWI contributes 3-4 buoys both in the Arctic and Antarctic (see list of buoy-related datasets in WDC-MARE/PANGAEA).
