Instruments

CTD

All institutions used a Sea Bird SBE911plus CTD profiler with a single CT-Sensor package (double CT-Sensor for AWI profilers). The CT sensors were frequently calibrated at Seabird Electronics. In addition salinity samples were taken to correct for sensor drift. The final data have been processed using Seabirds post-processing software which includes all necessary operations. The raw data have a vertical resolution of 0.04 dbar but still including noise e.g. due to ship motion. To reduce this noise, data were averaged to a vertical resolution of 1dbar.

LADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler lowered with the CTD/water sampler)

IOPAS deployed the LADCP during their cruises AREX 2003, AREX 2004 and AREX 2005 of type RD Instruments; Workhorse 300kHz.

Moored Instruments

The instrument types used in moorings are given in the mooring header list which can be retrieved from the data base. Most of instruments are Aanderaa rotor current meters of type RCM7 or RCM8 named AVT which stands for Aanderaa, Velocity and Temperature; AVTPC: same with optional pressure and conductivity sensors. RCM9 and RCM11 are Aanderaa Doppler current meters, 3D-ACM/CTD and ACM-Coastal are acoustic current meters from Falmouth Scientific Inc. CT or CTD recorders indicated as SEACAT which is the SBE16 and MICRO_CAT which is the basic SBE37. MICRO_CPR indicates the SBE37 with pressure sensor; .._CPU with pump; .._CPP with pressure and pump. Doppler current profilers are from RDI indicated as ADCP (standard), WH-ADCP (Work Horse), LR-ADCP (Long Ranger) and from Aanderaa indicated as DCM12 and RDCP600. IMR_RCM was used to indicate the Aanderaa rotor current meters from IMR.
