Training of students and early career scientists

Working on a doctoral thesis at AWI

We believe that it is important for students to obtain insight at an early stage into how research is carried out. Therefore, interested students have the possibility to cooperate with scientists of the Climate Dynamics section (student research assistants, internships (limited number per year), diploma and master theses). Our aim is to help students developing their technical and academic skills required to pursue successful future careers.

PhD students and Postdocs constitute one of the pillars of the section. They acquire strong technical skills such as developing and running complex models of the climate system. Further emphasis is put on the development of communication skills though presentations and publications in the peer-reviewed literature and through the development scientific independence (i.e. generating ideas and bringing them to fruition). Early career scientists also contribute to the supervision of students.

An overview of present job opportunities can be found here.
