Aerosol research
Within this topic we conduct research on the climate effects of tropospheric aerosols as well as properties of stratospheric aerosols.
The experimental work is done at the atmospheric observatory of the AWIPEV-Base in Ny-Aalesund, and with mobile instruments in the Arctic, Antarctic and tropics.
Activities
- Characterization of aerosol and cloud particles in the atmosphere world-wide with the Mobile NDACC Lidar systems
- Tropospheric Aerosols in the Arctic:
- Investigations of Arctic Haze with an air-borne lidar
- Aerosol forcing due to Arctic haze
- Long term observations of aerosols and clouds in Spitsbergen with a Tropo-Lidar
- Arctic Study on Tropospheric Aerosol and Radiation (ASTAR)
Campaigns: March/April 2000, May/June 2004, and March/April 2007. - Investigations of Polar Stratospheric Clouds
- Aerosol Optical Density measurements with sun and star photometers
