Expedition Progression

 

  • On 25 August 2007, Jürgen Graeser flies to Saint Petersburg where he gets to know the overwintering team.
  • On 27 August 2007, the overwintering team flies to Tiksi, Siberia. From there they are flown by helicopter on bord the Russian research vessel 'Akademik Fedorov'.
  • After about 3 weeks of search for a suitable ice floe, the material for the station is unloaded on a 3 x 5 km large ice floe North of Severnaya Zemlya on 18 September 2007.
  • On 20 September 2007, the 'Akademik Fedorov' casts off and the station is being mounted.
  • Official opening of the station NP-35 on 25 September 2007 with the transmission of  meteorological ground data.
  • At the beginning of October, the construction of the station is largely completed, including the laboratory building of Jürgen Graeser. In tte following, a tent is erected as balloon hangar, and his house for living is ready by end of November.
  • On 16 October 2007 launch of the first ozone sonde, on 17 October 2007 first tethered balloon measurement.
  • Middle of October until beginning of March: polar night !
  • 24 March 2008 last tethered balloon measurement, 27 March 2008 last ozone sounding, afterwards packing of equipment
  • Flying out on 10 April 2008 with Polar-5 to Spitsbergen
  • 13 April 2008 arrival at Berlin
