Differential Mobility Particle Sizer DMPS
Purpose of Participation
- Aerosol size distribution between 0.02 and 0.63 µm measurements at the Zeppelin station
Instrument description
DMPS consists of several units (DMA, CPC, HV supply, 63Ni neutralizer), which all together work as one unit delivering information about the aerosol size distribution based on size dependent electrical mobility properties of aerosol particles.
| Species | Aerosols |
| Method | Direct concentration and size measurements |
| Quantity primaryAerosol size distribution | |
| Quantity secondary | |
| Measurement range | 0.02 - 0.63 µm |
| Altitude range | NA |
| Vertical resolution | NA |
| Temporal resolution | 2 minutes |
| Operation | continuous |
| Precision | Depends on aerosol concentration |
| Preliminary data | in principle next day (man power dependent) |
| Final data | one year |
Specific remarks
- Ambient p and T from POLAR 4 basic instrumentation are required to derive correct ambient aerosol size distribution Custom made instrument
- Time resolution depends also on aerosol number density
