IN: Integrating Nephelometer

Purpose of Participation

  • Observation of the aerosol scattering coefficient at Rabben station.

Instrument description

The instrument IN is used for measurement of the scattering coefficient. The complex refractive index was estimated from simultaneous measurements with an IN, an OPC and a PSAP.

Species Aerosol
Method Measure the light scattering from aerosol.
Quantity primary Scattering coefficient
Quantity secondary in case of spherical particles: Single scattering albedo/ refractive index (combined measurements with the OPC and the PSAP)
Spectrum 530 nm
Altitude range
Vertical resolution
Temporal resolution 1 minutes
Operation Always
Precision ± 10%
Data availability (during campaign) Next day
Final data (after campaign) Six months
