O3: FULL-AUTOMATIC OZONE DETECTOR

Purpose of Participation:

  • Quantification of atmospheric ozone (O3) concentration in the European Arctic
  • Identify air masses with recent stratospheric influence

Instrument description

The O3 detector employs the long-path UV absorption technique for the measurement of concentrations of atmospheric O3. The instrument measures continuously the absorption of ultraviolet radiation at 253.7 nm in the sampled ambient air. The absorption is proportional to the O3 concentration.

Species Ozone
Method UV absorption
Quantity primary
Quantity secondary
Spectral range 0 - 10 km
Altitude range

Data availability (during campaign) next day
Final data (after campaign) three months

Specific remarks

  • The airborne measurements start after take-off and continue until landing.
