Main Projects in Division Biosciences
In the research division Biosciences, the main 3rd-party funding projects are:
Section Biogeosciences
C6 - Carbonate chemistry, carbon cycle and climate change
Objective: To increase our understanding of role and impact of the oceanic carbon cycle on climate change. [EU-funding]
PALEOSALT
Objective: To develop, calibrate and verify three independent salinity proxies and to apply them to reconstruct thermo-haline controls on past ocean changes. [ESF-funding]
Section Shelf Sea Ecology
PLANKTON*NET
Objective: To create provide a quality-controlled online resource for the archival and mining of plankton-related information ranging from taxonomy and associated images to environmental information . [EU-funding]
Section Bentho-Pelagic Processes
CENSOR - Climate variability and El Niño Southern Oscillation: Implications for natural coastal resources and management
Objective: To enhance the understanding of El Niño and La Niña effects on the coastal zone and its resources, to mitigate damage, better use beneficial effects, and thus improve the livelihood of human coastal populations. [EU-funding]
Section Ecological Chemistry
CHEMSEA - EU-Interreg-Project
Objective: To assess and minimise risks related to dumped chemical warfare agents in the Baltic Sea

Long Term Ecological Research
In order to faciliate our understanding of long term variability and trends in marine ecosystems, AWI maintains several ecological research time series.
