Zooplankton Research

The main aim of our group is to understand the  impact of environmental changes due to climate change, on pelagic key species in the Polar Ocean and its consequences on the marine pelagic system in terms of:

  • Ecosystem processes (e.g. food web structure, biogeochemical cycles)
  • Their adaptability to changing environmental conditions (e.g. temperature increase, ice reduction, pH decrease, food quality and quantity)
  • A shift in species composition and seasonal succession

Species of interest in the Southern Ocean

  Antarctic krill             Salps            Chaetognaths

Species if Interest in the Arctic Ocean
