Marine Genomics (EU Network of Excellence)

Marine Genomics is a newly funded Network of Excellence in the 6th EU framework. We have taught training courses for microarrays for phylogenetic analysis and we have one main project concerning Emiliania huxleyi. In this project the gene expression of several strains of E. huxleyi will be compared with and without viral infection. Preliminary results indicate that the virus

• Turns off photosynthetic transcripts within hours
• Turns on protein metabolism and transcription transcripts
• Takes over host transcription within one day
• Host expresses more stress proteins
