Expedition Science and Art - Fellowship for Artists

The Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) and the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (Institute for Advanced Study, HWK) are jointly offering a fellowship for artists. These two institutions would like to use this collaborative project to foster dialogue between the realms of science and the arts.

The AWI sponsors fine artists, photographers, authors, and musicians by inviting them to participate in expeditions (by ship), or to visit various research stations. This allows the artists to engage fully with the AWI’s research in extreme Polar Regions as well as closer to home in the North Sea.

The Australian painter Shonah Trescott inspired her 4-week stay in the research base of the Alfred Wegener institute in Ny-Å lesund, among the rest, to these pictures.
