Friends of the AWI: Activities
Since being established in 2009, Friends of the AWI have already been supporting diverse projects:
- Awaring several prizes for outstanding achievements of AWI employees:
- Cofunding an expedition of AWI's school project HIGHSEA
- Awarding the nationwide "AWI DKB prize for trainees" for exceptional achievements during training ("Ausbildung") in an institution for polar and marine research in Germany (prize awarded by AWI, Friends of the AWI and Deutsche Kreditbank AG)
- Supporting the film version of "Paul and Napoleon", a children's book published by an AWI scientist and an AWI technician, explaining the climate change to kids
Further ideas for projects worth being supported are continously developed in Friend of the AWI's executive board and discussed in the general meeting each year.
