Guest research at the Biologische Anstalt Helgoland

Universities and research centres are invited to use a broad package offered all year-round by the Biologische Anstalt Helgoland, including accommodation and supply of biological material.

The marine station of the Alfred-Wegener Institute (AWI) at Helgoland offers work place and accommodation to scientists from external institutions (present visitors). Visiting scientists can use a methodologically broad range of equipment in our modern laboratories, have access to library services, and find optimal conditions to collect and cultivate marine organisms around the Island of Helgoland (species list). The marine station is exceptionally suited to carrying interdisciplinary projects, networking research groups from different departments or institutes at one location. Moreover, it is possible to fund eligible projects with short-term (≤ 12 months) positions for visiting scientists. All these opportunities are especially, but not exclusively available to scientists doing research in collaboration with AWI-staff.
