Costal Erosion
The appearance of Samoylov Island is always changing. There are some seasonal changes through higher waterlevels in the Lena caused by snowmelt in spring and lower levels in late summer. But coastal erosion also lead to lasting changes at the south coast of the island.
These changes can be observed with aerial imaging and show clearly what changes need to be done to the station in the near future. The red line shows the shoreline in 2003, green 2007 and the orange line and the picture represent the coast in last years expedition 2008.
