Ozone Soundings at Neumayer
Since 1992 regular ozone soundings have been performed using ECC 5A/6A sensors mounted on RS80/RS90/RS92 radiosondes. Ozone profiles up to a height of 35 km were obtained about weekly.
All the measurements contribute to a timeseries that is now more than 20 years long.
Current data from the ozone soundings at Neumayer in diagrams:
The overwintering team at Neumayer updates the diagrams immediately after an ozone sounding has been successfully performed. During the ozone depletion period, they try to increase the sounding rate from 1 sounding per week up to 3 soundings per week.
In the following time-height sections the annual ozone variation over Neumayer is displayed. The ozone depletion - occurring during Antarctic spring - can be recognized clearly.
Soundings before March 1992 from Georg Forster Station (70°46'S, 11°41'E).
