Overview of the Ny-Ålesund Research Village

Several facilities of the research site in Ny-Ålesund are used together by he corporately operated German-French Research Base. In the image beside you can see the different buildings. Here is a short overview about the various buildings and their use.


 

Blue House (AWI)

Workplaces for guests, office of the station leader, data recording, social room, four double bedrooms, warm storage, storage for clothes, laundry

German contribution for the global Network for the Detection of Atmospheric Composition Change (NDACC) with various atmospheric measuring instruments, computer lab, seminar room, and a balloon house for preparation scientific measuring balloons


 

Rabot Station (IPEV)

Rabot Station

Wet laboratories, workshop, warm storage, French Administration Office, four double bedrooms, IPEV personal room, social room, laundry


 

Blue Garage (AWI)

Storage room with ambient air temperature directly next to the Blue House


 

Red Garage (AWI)

Scootergarage

Storage room with ambient air temperature: snow scooters,  gas bottles, and boat equipment

Marine Lab

Since 2005 a new Marine Laboratory is operated by Kings Bay


 

Champ Antenna

Satellite receiving station for telemetry of CHAMP und Bird, operated by the Geoforschungszentrum Potsdam


 

Corbel Station

Corbel Station

Four huts with facilities for staying over night as well as power supply by both solar and wind power about 5 km east of Ny-Ålesund, measurements of air chemistry
